Bodyguard Training – How to become a Bodyguard PART 3

Residential and Scene Security

Proper surveillance tactics as well as countermeasures are an important aspect of bodyguard training. Individuals are taught how to work with existing security companies and services that may already be in place, and how to implement security measures when there are none in existence. Securing the location of an individual will not only entail the residence of the client or principal, as the person in need of VIP protection will may not be in one static location at all times. In order for the principal to travel securely aeroplanes, vehicles, venues and so forth will have to be secured before the arrival of the principal.

Safety in Transit

Bodyguard training involves ensuring the safety of the principal during all daily activities which may entail the transit from one place to another. This may be on foot, in a vehicle, ship, train, helicopter, aeroplane and so forth. Bodyguards are also taught how to plan the principals’ movements during the day in order to avoid potential threats en route. This may include selecting the best and safest routes for travel as well as securing the mode of travel. Bodyguards are taught how and where to place themselves in specific formations to apply the effective personal protection to the principal.

Project Management

Bodyguards are taught how to determine a profile for each principal or client they offer VIP protection to. Naturally some clients require a greater level of protection than others, and it is up to the bodyguard to determine an accurate principal profile and ascertain the level of risks involved during VIP protection. Project management can therefore involve delegating personal protection tasks to other bodyguards as well as liaising and working together with various security companies to ensure suitable and meticulous close protection at all times.

Firearm Training

Last but by no means least all bodyguard training courses involves live firearm training. Individuals are taught how to handle a firearm and most importantly, how to do so safely. Counter attack techniques and advanced weapons training tactics are also covered. Training institutions will require their graduates to show handgun competency before they complete their course and often accept or acknowledge previous certificates of competency.
